Clean Up Ocean Beach with the John Butler Trio!
Sunday, December 2
10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.,
Free concert immediately following cleanup!
In partnership with Surfrider Foundation, Rock the Earth, Music Matters, and Clif Bar
Save The Bay, Surfrider Foundation, Rock the Earth, Music Matters, and CLIF Bar, are hosting a trash cleanup at Ocean Beach on Sunday, December 2 from 10:00 a.m. to noon, followed by an outdoor musical session with John Butler Trio! We’re looking for energetic and capable volunteers to help us pick up garbage and debris at this popular San Francisco beach and then be rewarded by the upbeat sounds of a great band! Help clean up the beach and raise awareness about the dangers of trash in our waterways. As the North Pacific Garbage Patch grows, it is increasingly important to prevent trash from making its way into the San Francisco Bay and ultimately out to the Pacific Ocean .
Save The Bay is the oldest and largest membership organization working exclusively to celebrate, protect, and restore San Francisco Bay . We hold shoreline cleanups to prevent trash and debris from reaching our waterways and threatening fish and wildlife. Your assistance with this event will help us keep this harmful pollutant out of the Bay and ocean.
Sign up online to volunteer for this fun event at www.saveSFbay.org/bayevents. While this event is free, we do require registration to help us plan supplies. If you have questions, contact Jennie Pardi at bayevents@saveSFbay.org or (510)452.9261 x119.

That's awesome thank you for all of your hard work and time Natalie and Wylie, again I love commando Han Solo missions I just was curious as to bring more supplies, and with the sun setting earlier I think it is a great idea to start earlier. I haven't been to BO since before this all started so I am looking forward to getting out there. I have some great NEWS that I am going to post about a cleanup day with a free concert from a great band... So keep your eyes and ears open. Way to go guys!

HI I am looking for information because my ex husband is insisting on taking my kids to Stinson over Thanksgiving.I am from Alaska - the people who cleaned up in Alaska STILL have health problems.I talked to a life guard at Stinson who said 'they' had them swimming in it.I told him he needs to get something in writing to protect his health. I do not trust our EPA and obviously this spill has been botched from the beginning.

I think they are opening the beaches up for business sake not because it's now OK.

I have so much respect for your courage,am grateful to everyone who has been cleaning and I hope you all will get a natropath on board to protect your health - don't drink or do any thing else that will compromise immunity.

The official clean ups are on the weekends, and, yes, you'd meet up at the firehouse. This is a commando mission down at Wharf. I didn't check the sunset, but starting earlier seems prudent. I'll update the info to a 1:00 start time.

So Friday at 2:30...
Here are the tides for Point Reyes on Fri. Minisciule diff. between BO Bo and Pt. Reyes
F 23 Low 2:37 AM 2.3 7:01 AM Set 6:02 AM 95
     23 High 8:38 AM 6.8 4:56 PM Rise 4:00 PM
     23 Low 3:49 PM -1.5
     23 High 10:38 PM 4.8

Now is this an "official" colabrative or is it Han Solo... I love Han Solo I just want to know, so I can bring a PPE and more supplies, etc...
Sunset is at 4:54 so if meeting time is at 2:30 that is 2 and 1/2 hours of work time, hitting deep into PaloMarin would be tough, not enough daylight, ya feal me...
Saturday and Sun. I have been told to meet up at Mesa at the Fire Station... I do not know what time though...
I am sorry if I sound negative in any way that is not my intention at all I just wanted to point out the limited work time and remind everyone about Sat. and Sun.

I was out on Ocean Beach and China Beach on Sunday the 18th...after the beaches were opened and the volunteer effort called off.
There are still small tar balls coming up with the tide. I also found 1 injured bird and 1 dead oiled bird (sad).

Here is a link to the video I made based on the pictures I took.

Special thanks to Harry Allen @ EPA who seemed to be coordinating the emergency response effort AND training the public effectively in tough conditions and a short amount of time..

also thanks to Lance (can't remember last name) @ SFPUC who was coordinating the volunteer cleanup at OB Saturday. He had briefed and sent out 500 volunteers by early afternoon and was keeping his cool (and remembering everyones' names!) despite the difficulties of coordinating with the feds - who insisted on opening the north half of OB while it was still filled with bits of oil and hazmat workers..
